5 upcoming food festivals in Singapore to eat, drink and be merry

With plenty of festivals focused on food and drinks coming your way in the next few months, there’s no better time to stuff yourself silly. From sipping a cup of coffee to nursing a glass of beer to digging into local dishes with a twist, these crowd favourites and newly-launched events offer plenty for you to indulge in.

All the festivals come with lots of fringe activities and live entertainment as well, so you’ll never be bored. Just make sure you save space in your stomach (and cash in your wallet) for the good stuff!

Guzzle your way through the four-day shindig as Asia’s largest beer festival returns. Find your favourite brew from a mind-blowing variety of more than 500 beers, including new ones by Archipelago Brewery, Eastory Asia, TSA Wines and more. Of course, there’ll also be entertainment in the form of live music, stand-up comedy, beer pong tables and dart stations.  Jun 16-19 at Marina Promenade. Tickets start from $15.

Epicurean Market

Not a fan of getting all worked up and sweaty at outdoor festivals? Rub shoulders with celebrity chefs and other important people at Marina Bay Sands’ culinary market. A spread of gourmet produce, fine wines, spirits, sake, cocktails, craft beers and more await. Watch out for appearances by names like Waku Ghin’s Tetsuya Wakuda, db Bistro & Oyster Bar’s Daniel Boulud, Sky on 57’s Justin Quek and Adrift’s David Myers — they’ll pop by to say hi and conduct master classes. Plus, the Farmers’ Market returns with fresh produce from around the world, and weekend nights will see DJs take the decks alongside mixologists shaking up cocktails at after parties. Aug 12-14 at Hall A-C, Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Tickets on sale from Jun 6.

Savour

So many things are awesome about this year’s fest. First of all, the Savour grounds are actually open for free, which means anyone can shimmy in and spend only on the items they want to buy in the Gourmet Village and Gourmet Market. Secondly, dishes from award-winning restaurants are priced at $6 and $12, so you already know how much cash to bring. Last but certainly not least, look out for Savour Wines in Sept, where you’ll get to taste over 400 selections, and the debut of Savour Christmas in Nov, where everything will be wonderful and magical… because Christmas. May 12-15 at Bayfront Ave, next to Marina Bay Sands Exhibition Centre. Free access to the festival grounds; $30 for experience pack, which includes vouchers and a goodie bag.

Singapore Coffee Festival

Caffeine addicts, this is what you’ve been longing for – Singapore’s very first coffee-centric fest. Everything here revolves around the bean: Expect more than 100 coffee vendors (including Chye Seng Huat Hardware, Dapper Coffee and The Tuckshop) whipping up fresh cuppas, workshops, talks and discussions about all things java, and a backdrop of live tunes by local bands. You’ll learn what goes into roasting the beans, the basics of specialty coffee making, and even the techniques of latte art. It’s café-hopping made easy, with all your favourite ones gathered together. Jun 9-12 at F1 Pit Building. Tickets start from $11.

Slip into the loosest pair of pants you can find (we recommend joggers), ’cause you’ll be stuffing your face in time to come. The deets on this aren’t out yet, but if last year’s event was anything to go by, it’ll be a neat showcase of our country’s best dishes and culinary talents. So get ready to nosh on local classics with a twist. Jul-Aug.
