SCUM Cinema sure can churn out the coolest events. After the experimental SCUMSCOPE last year, the fest returns under a new name: Singapore Cult and Underground Film Festival. Four indie films span the genres of horror, comedy and documentary — check ’em out below.
Housebound
Mar 24, 8.30pm
For Kylie Bucknell, the worst part about being on home detention is returning to her childhood house and living with her mum, Miriam. A superstitious person, Miriam is certain their living quarters are haunted, but Kylie refuses to believe in the supernatural. That is, until she experiences creepy whispers and alarming noises in the night, and begins to wonder if it’s her imagination… or something more.

Goodnight Mommy
Mar 25, 8.30pm
In a remote countryside home, a pair of young twins wait for their mother to return after plastic surgery. But when she steps into the house, with her head wrapped in bandages, she’s harsher and more distant than before. On her command, the family is cut off from the outside world, and the boys begin to doubt whether the woman is who she claims to be.

Remake, Remix, Ripoff
Mar 26, 5pm
Delve into the colourful world of Turkish film from the ’60s to the ’80s, where the phrase ‘copyright laws’ didn’t mean a thing. This amusing documentary, which took seven years to produce, shows you a glimpse of a prolific industry, where everything was up for grabs to duplicate and use — from the title and plot to the musical score and even footage from iconic Hollywood movies like Star Wars, Superman and Rambo.

Raiders!
Mar 27, 5pm
This documentary takes fandom to a new level. Three 11-year-olds found themselves obsessed with Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark when it came out in 1981, and created the ultimate tribute: a shot-for-shot remake of the movie, done in eight years. Well, almost. The scene of the fight with the Nazis at the desert airfield was never completed, due to a falling out between the friends. Years later, they reunited, got two professional filmmakers on board, and finished their movie with the help of a Kickstarter campaign.

SCUFF is at The Projector from Mar 24 to 27. Tickets are $13 per movie.
