Yolanda survivor tops CPA board exams

Typhoon Yolanda survivor Rommel Rhino Edusma, 25, has topped the 2014 licensure exams for certified public accountants (CPA).

“Edusma topped this year’s CPA board with a rating of 94.57%, the very first topnotcher produced by Tacloban City’s Asian Development Foundation College (ADFC),” reports Joey A. Gabieta in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Edusma, the son of a retired soldier and a housewife, had to overcome incredible odds to pull off his board exam triumph.

His family and almost all their relatives lost their homes when Typhoon Yolanda hit last year.

Fortunately, friends and other relatives helped them get back on their feet. In fact, Edusma was also allowed to stay at a review center while studied for the board exams.

Edusma was quoted as saying in the Inquirer report, “I did not allow our bad experience with Yolanda to disturb me but rather used it to do better in our examinations. I know this will serve as an instrument for me to help my family.”
