Yesterday, officials arrested a yoga instructor in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City for allegedly selling party drugs.
Radyo Inquirer identified the suspect as 31-year-old Marie Stephanie Arranz. With a search warrant on hand, officers from the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) searched Arranz’s condominium in BGC, a business district in Metro Manila where a lot of bars and clubs can be found.
Found inside the house were packs of drugs that look to be cocaine, shabu (meth), and marijuana estimated to be worth PHP100,000 (US$1,919.88)
Arranz denied this and said that she had never seen the drugs before.
“I would never have that in my house. I don’t even know what that is. I have never seen that ever in my life. Would I be stupid enough? I’m working so hard as a single mom to my child, [you think] I’m gonna risk that? Am I stupid?” she said in English and Tagalog.
“Do you really want to ruin my life and my daughter’s life even if there’s nothing there?”
PNP-DEG said they had been watching Arranz for about a month before the arrest. According to PNP-DEG legal officer Enrico Rigor, surveillance photos show the yoga instructor delivering the drugs using a motorcycle.
“She has been involved in the proliferation of drugs during events, she distributes drugs. We conducted a surveillance of the drug syndicate she’s a part of,” Rigor told ABS-CBN News.
The agency believes this syndicate is the same one radio DJ Karen Borador was a part of. Borador and her boyfriend were arrested in August 2016 during a buy-bust operation less than two months after President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-narcotics crackdown started.
Like Borador, officials believe Arranz supplies drugs to high-end parties, concerts, and events.
Rigor said that they will continue to investigate other people linked to the same drug syndicate.
