Yahoo! PH is dead, website redirects to Singapore site

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

This update deserves a boo, not a loud and boisterous yahoo.

Yahoo! Philippines is no more. Not just the local sales and editorial operations — which were unceremoniously shut down two months ago — but the actual website.

As in, type http://ph.yahoo.com and you are redirected to Yahoo! Singapore’s homepage. The same with Yahoo! Malaysia. The move happened at least three days ago, according to a Coconuts reader, though in a tweet Yahoo PH said it started only on June 2. We don’t want to get technical here, after all, what’s gone is gone.

Anyway, we contacted the website’s PR reprentative in the Philippines, who forwarded us this statement:

“This move is a part of our ongoing initiative to streamline internal workflows to operate in a more collaborative and efficient way. The Yahoo Southeast Asia editorial team based at Singapore has been built up over the last several months to become the content hub for the region, supported by robust content partnerships that we continue to have in the market. The editorial team is familiar with what inspires and entertains users in different markets and we are fully confident of delivering highly personalized content experiences that keep our users connected to the things that matters most, across devices.”

Sad times and — at the risk of sounding cliché — the end of an era.

  1. This is now OK. It is now redirected to ph.yahoo.com and not to yahoo singapore. 🙂
