In a basketball-obsessed country like the Philippines, this is surely a cause for celebration.
During a game at the Under Armour Asia Tour in Taipei, Taiwan, on Tue, Sep 6, Batang Gilas member Gian Mamuyac blocked a shot from for NBA superstar Stephen Curry.
In a video posted on Twitter by SLAM Philippines, Mamuyac can be seen thwarting Curry’s three-point attempt.
Not surprisingly, the crowd went wild. It’s not everyday a Filipino high school student gets to reject a shoot from a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, after all.

According to ABS-CBN’s TJ Manotoc, a Taiwanese celebrity requested a replay of Mamuyac and Curry’s showdown. This time, the NBA cager had no problems making the shot.
To clarify, Steph didn’t ask for this 5 sec replay. was informed it was Taiwanese celeb who did. But still pic.twitter.com/XMNOF35KLG

Still, it was a pretty sweet moment for Mamuyac, who was named the event’s MVP. He also won for himself a trip to Curry’s basketball camp in the US.
Of course, Mamuyac took to social media to commemorate his achievement.
“The recent happenings are so far the best souvenirs which I would treasure throughout my lifetime. Truly one for the books,” he said in an Instagram post on Wed, Sep 7.
One of the books indeed.
