Drug smugglers go to unbelievable lengths to hide their crime. Using foodstuff is probably one of the oldest tricks in the book.

Police authorities seized PHP11M (about USD220,000) worth of shabu (methamphetamine) stuffed inside hollowed out coconuts in Dumagete City jail, reports ABS-CBN News.

A man who was supposed to deliver the coconuts for the prisoners brought the tropically packaged contraband with him. The smuggling attempt was discovered because of suspicious “windows” on four of the coconut shells.

“It looked like a normal delivery. There was a driver and a kid was helping him. They were riding a motorcycle. It was all caught on our CCTV,” said Chief Inspector Pricel Arevalo.

An investigation is ongoing to determine who is the intended recipient of the illegal drugs.
