Monday was a gruesome day in Angeles City, Pampanga after chopped up body parts of a woman were discovered by the police.
Sales agent Lindsey Avelino’s torso was found inside the washing machine in the apartment where she used to live, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. Her legs, arms, head, and feet were cut off. they were discovered by the police stuffed inside a bag that was found at a vacant house nearby.
The police identified Avelino’s domestic partner, Eduardo Pasion, as the suspect behind the gruesome killing. After allegedly killing her, Pasion confessed the crime to his employer, who then reported the incident to the police.
Cops tracked down Pasion on the same day at an abandoned house in the village of Pampang where he reportedly resisted arrest, according to the Philippine Star. He allegedly engaged in a gunfight with the authorities and ended up getting killed, reported GMA News’ QRT.
Journal Online reported that the police recovered a 9mm pistol with six live ammunition and two empty shells from Pasion.
The authorities believe that Pasion killed Avelino in a fit of jealousy because the latter was allegedly planning to leave him for another man. The cops said that Avelino was a victim of domestic abuse and even filed a formal complaint in December against the suspect and had him arrested. However, she decided to drop the complaint and even bailed him out.
It’s not uncommon for a crime like this to occur in the Philippines. The most high-profile case was the 1993 killing of Elsa Castillo, whom the media dubbed as the “chop-chop lady” and whose life and death was chronicled in a movie. Castillo was killed by an American named Stephen Mark Whisenhunt, who was deported to the U.S. in 2013 after being imprisoned in the Philippines.
The most recent “chop-chop” crimes include the case of a Taiwanese doctor who confessed to killing his Filipino wife in February 2016; a Quezon City resident who was allegedly killed by her own husband in March 2018; and a Chinese national who was allegedly killed by her compatriots at a posh Makati condominium in November 2018.
