Over the phone on ANC’s News Now on Monday afternoon, a woman named Carmen Jatzon revealed that she had tried to get some relief goods but was told that she wasn’t eligible.
The reason?
Jatzon was told that her name is not on the list of Tacloban City residents eligible to receive relief goods. Jatzon said that the person who told her this was a representative of one of the government agencies distributing relief goods in the area. She wasn’t on the list because she not an official resident of Tacloban. Jatzon hails from Eastern Samar.
Jatzon said she hadn’t gone home to Eastern Samar in order not to spend more on travel. Ironically, this practical thinking may have been her undoing. Now, Jatzon says she and others like her rely on what little other Typhoon Yolanda survivors can spare.
All because her name isn’t on that list.
