Forty-six times.

This is how many times Joan Bongares, 33, was stabbed in her apartment in Caloocan City, Metro Manila, when three men broke into her house at around 4:30pm on Friday, after they first posed as would-be renters inquiring about rooms.

Bongares tried defending herself, but they were able to stab her using an ice pick, fork, and kitchen knife, while she was on the floor. According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the victim pretended to be dead as the three men left her house.

Incredibly, she managed to survive the vicious attack.

Out of the three men, only one, identified as Michael Franco, was caught by the police. He admitted to the crime but said that he was just pushed by his friend to do it during a drinking session.

“I blacked out and then I was told that we should break into [the house.] She screamed, so I stabbed her,” Franco told ABS-CBN News in Tagalog.

But the police think the act was premeditated.

“The suspect is part of the Sputnik Gang. It’s possible that he has been observing [the victim] for a long time,”  Senior Insp. Dennis Odtuhan said.

Franco had been arrested multiple times before and is believed to be a drug user. He was found with two packs of shabu (meth) after being arrested.

Bongares is recuperating in a hospital in Quezon City while Franco will face cases of robbery, frustrated homicide, and illegal drug possession.
