A woman has died after she was stabbed inside an MRT-3 station in Mandaluyong City yesterday.

The still unidentified victim was found by a roving MRT guard in the south wing stairway of the MRT Boni Station (northbound) at around 2:25pm, the DOTr MRT-3 Facebook page said yesterday.

The stab wound was reportedly located on the victim’s lower chest. According to the statement, MRT personnel immediately called for medical assistance.

However, when the ambulance got there, they found that the woman no longer had a heartbeat, investigator Police Senior Master Sergeant Gregorio Akbay of the Mandaluyong Police Station, told Coconuts Manila in a phone interview.

Akbay said that the MRT’s staff initially thought that the woman just had a heart attack but later found blood on her clothes. He said that based on CCTV he reviewed, the woman was stabbed by a still unidentified man at around 2:20pm.

He said that the woman was standing while drinking juice when the suspect arrived and suddenly whipped out a weapon that looked like an ice pick or screwdriver. She then threw the juice at the man before the man stabbed her near her left breast. Akbay said the woman then started to weaken and fell on the staircase where she was eventually found.

According to Akbay, the victim was only stabbed once.

Some reports identified the woman as a beggar, although Akbay said that this is probably not the case. While the woman’s clothes looked dirty, she was in possession of a wallet with several PHP100 (US$1.91) bills. Akbay said that her cash and coins were neatly arranged inside the wallet.

There was no ID inside the woman’s wallet or bag but Akbay said they found an application form that specified a woman’s name and the name of the applicant’s mother. The police have contacted the mother but have yet to verify if the victim is her daughter.

The suspect has not yet been identified either because the CCTV footage is not clear and only his back is seen.

The police found out that both the victim and the suspect often roamed around the MRT station. Akbay said that the two may have fought before the incident and that the crime may have been premeditated.
