Rebecca Safelino, 62, a resident of Calumpit, Bulacan was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Based on initial investigation, a certain John Mark Navarro asked assistance from the police, saying that his sister’s mobile phone was stolen in Olongapo,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
Navarro said he sent a message to his sister’s phone number and told the alleged thief identified as Elmer Orcano that he would buy the mobile phone. He instructed Orcano to meet him outside the terminal in Caloocan City.
However, it seems that Orcano panicked when he saw Navarro with policemen. This caused him to indiscriminately fire his gun. Safelino, who was inside a bus, that was entering the terminal, reportedly stood up and peered outside the bus window to see what was going on. That was when she got hit by Orcano.
Orcano, who was also shot by police, has been arrested.
And all this carnage began when one man wanted to retrive a stolen cellphone.
