The story was featured on ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda, but Anthony Mendoza probably didn’t have such a great morning right after he was attacked by his ex-girlfriend with a hammer.
“Mendoza related that at around 10pm on Wednesday, Jan 29, he had gone to the house of his former live-in partner in Cubao, Quezon City, Andrea dela Cruz, to visit their child when she suddenly threatened him with a knife,” report ABS-CBN News correspondent Carolyn Bonquin.
Dela Cruz somehow replaced a knife with hammer and hit Mendoza’s head with it. When they got to the police station, she got hold of a stapler and once again hit Mendoza on the side of his head with it.
Dela Cruz’s father, Arturo, also reportedly joined in and beat up Mendoza.
Dela Cruz said she only did what she did because Mendoza had been physically abusing her. “Ngayon lang ako gumanti, nakulong pa ako (I only fought back now and I get jailed for it),” she tearfully said. She added that she wanted to cut ties with him and didn’t want to see him anymore.
For his part, Arturo said he was only trying to break up the fight between his daughter and Mendoza.
Mendoza said he will pursue charges against Dela Cruz and her father.
