Woman in General Santos sells kid for PHP1,200

His own mother sold him.

“Earlier this week, Social workers from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) of General Santos City, rescued a one-year-old boy named James after he was sold by his mother for PHP1,200,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Jay Dayupay on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report didn’t say how the social workers knew about James, but it’s presumed that a concerned citizen had bought the baby from his mother. The said citizen then called the social workers.

James was found to be malnourished, so he was immediately given proper medical attention.

The report said that “authorities have yet to trace the child’s parents, who are said to be residents of Alabel, Sarangani.”

The social workers pointed out that parents who sell their kids are violating Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. These parents may be charged with child trafficking.
