A woman was found dead in Cavinti, Laguna province after her son followed the trail of a foul smell on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Felisa Meneses, 38 years old, Cavinti Police chief Police Capt. Abelardo Jarabero told ABS-CBN News. Her lifeless body was reportedly found in a muddy area just meters away from their home in Sitio Calminue, Barangay (Village) Cansuso.
Meneses lived with only her son in a hut located in the middle of a farm. Her son had been looking for a job in Batangas province for a week before coming home. He allegedly did not see his mother upon arriving and only found her body a day after when he noticed a foul smell coming from outside.
Because there were no neighbors nearby, no one witnessed the crime.
No wounds were found on Meneses’ body but a bra and a piece of cloth were found wrapped around her neck, GMA News reported. She was also found naked and with a solid object in her private part.
The victim’s relatives told GMA News that she had mental health problems and would often wander around their area.
Meneses’ body will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether or not she was raped. Authorities will also question workers in a nearby mining site regarding the incident.
