A woman has been found dead inside a drainage canal in Barangay (Village) Salhag, Rosario town in Northern Samar province.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Ellen Joy De Guia, a resident of Barangay (Village) Dalakit in Catarman town, ABS-CBN News reported. Her body was discovered on Wednesday.

She was a call center agent working in Manila who was back home in Catarman to vote in the midterm elections last week, Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. She is survived by her 7-year-old son.

According to authorities, De Guia’s underwear and shorts were rolled down to her knees, Radyo Inquirer reported. The victim also had a wound on her head.

The police said that the victim came from a village fiesta and was forced to ride on a motorcycle by an unidentified person just a few hours before her body was found.

They are now waiting on the results of the postmortem examination to see if the victim was sexually assaulted. Police are also looking into possible motives behind the crime.
