An elderly woman died while her husband sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were riding got into an accident in Davao City on Saturday.
ABS-CBN News identified the victims as Gloria Garcia, 67, and her husband, Melanio Garcia, 70, who were on the way to the hospital for the latter’s kidney dialysis treatment.
Authorities said that Melanio was taken by surprise when he saw that a part of the Carlos P. Garcia Highway in the village of Catalunan Grande was unpaved, causing him to lose control and to wipe out, the same report added.
Gloria also fell and got run over by a mixer truck driven by 45-year-old Rene Blanco, an employee of Safecon Industries, radio station RMN reported.
Blanco claimed that he was driving the truck at a normal pace and did not notice that the couple’s motorcycle fell when the incident happened.
Blanco is under the custody of the Talomo Philippine National Police.
