A woman from Negros Occidental who traveled all the way to Manila died on Saturday after undergoing liposuction in a Makati City clinic.

Businesswoman Nory Bobadilla, 43 years old, of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental had the surgery in Contours Advanced Face and Body Sculpting in South Park Plaza, Paseo de Magallanes on July 3, Wednesday, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

The clinic’s business permit had allegedly already expired, according to ABS-CBN News.

Bobadilla allegedly stopped breathing in the middle of the procedure, according to the police. Doctors Claudine Roura and Katrina Bulseco tried to revive the patient but she was eventually rushed to the Parañaque Doctor’s Hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and slipped into a coma before dying.

Bobadilla’s relatives have filed a complaint against the doctors. The clinic’s lawyer told GMA News that his clients were allegedly illegally arrested on July 5 but were eventually released on the same day.

The doctors said that they have covered the victim’s hospitalization and burial expenses, Makati City Police’s Maj. Gideon Ines Jr. told The Philippine Star. The police also said that the doctors seemed willing to take part in the investigation, GMA News reported.

Bobadilla was a mother of five. One of her children told ABS-CBN News that they were not aware that their mother would undergo liposuction during her trip to Manila.

Makati City Police chief Police Col. Rogelio Simon said that they are now investigating whether there were lapses on the part of the clinic during the procedure. They are considering filing complaints against the doctors for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and medical malpractice.
