A woman was caught last night in the village of Culiat in Quezon City for allegedly peddling meth (shabu).

Here’s the kicker — she was allegedly bringing her grandchild with her whenever she sold to customers.

TV show Unang Balita identified the suspect as Leila Casisiempre, who was arrested by authorities at her home while she was carrying her grandchild. The authorities say they found two packs of shabu in her possession.

Casisiempre protested that the alleged drugs were given to her by an unidentified man. She said: “Those were given to me by a man outside [my house]. He said I should sell it. I said, ‘My partner will get mad at me because he doesn’t know [I’m dealing drugs].”

Casisiempre said she was forced to sell because she needed to support her grandchild. “I don’t have enough money to buy milk for my grandchild. His mother and father are both in jail,” she said.

According to Beng Balonzo, a village official, Casisiempre is known in the village for selling drugs. “They’re using the child as a cover for their dealing [by bringing him along]. It’s sad but that’s the truth and that’s the reality.”

Casisiempre will be charged with violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Her grandchild was left in the care of her partner.
