“On Friday, Mar 7, Vice President Jejomar Binay revealed that boxing champion and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao has agreed to join his senatorial slate in 2016,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
“Matagal na naming pinaguusapan yun bago pa maghalalan ng 2013 (We have have been talking about it for some time, even before the 2013 polls),” Binay disclosed.
For his part, Pacquiao said he has yet to make a final decision on Binay’s offer. But he said, “Kung mabuo talaga ang desisyon ko na tumakbo sa Senado e magkapartido naman kami e (If I decide to run for the Senate, we’d be in the same party anyway).”
The report noted that “Binay has cut ties with the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas (PDP)-Laban to launch a new political party that will carry him as its presidential standard-bearer.” Binay is expected to announce the name of his new political party on June 12, Independence Day.
