Will LRT-2 allow pets onboard soon?

One of the hassles in enduring the commute in Manila is when you have your pet with you. After all, there are times when you can’t leave them home alone, and especially when you have to take them to important appointments such as the vet.

It seems that train passengers may just have something to look forward to: the LRT Line 2 may just allow pets aboard the train, based on their social media post from today.

“We’re having new passengers on LRT-2! Watch out…” the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) tweeted.

With it was an image that read “Soon [on] LRT-2,” with images of a cat and a dog in each corner.

While the details and regulations surrounding this new policy are still unclear, it is worth noting that the MRT-3, run by the Metro Rail Transit Corporation, began allowing cats and certain dogs aboard their trains in 2021, provided they are in diapers and enclosed in a 2×2 ft carrier.

While the LRT and MRT trains are run by different bodies, passengers usually cross between these lines to get to their destinations — so it would make sense if the LRTA adopted the MRT’s current pet policy.
