Senator Grace Poe has confirmed that Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary (DILG) Mar Roxas — the presumptive Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate — seems to want her to be his running mate in the 2016 elections.
But Poe, who ranks higher than Roxas in pre-election surveys, seemed cool to the idea.
Poe told reporters that she last spoke with Roxas when they met by chance at a restaurant last week.
Although no formal offer was made, Poe said it was clear to her that Roxas wanted her to be his running mate.
“Malinaw na sa akin ngayon ang kanyang pakay (His intentions are clear to me now),” Poe said.
She went on to explain, “Paminsan-minsan ‘pag nagkikita kami, nababanggit niya na magandang magkasama kami. Pero ang sinabi ko nga, hindi naman sa pagkakaibigan lamang. Kailangan mayro’n din kayong parehong pananaw sa mga bagay-bagay at kumpyansa sa isa’t isa bago magkaroon ng desisyon sa ganyan. (Sometimes when we meet, he would say it would be good if we ran together. But I said it’s not just about friendship. You should also have similar views on different things and confidence in each other before making a decision).”
Poe was noncommittal when asked about the possibility of being Roxas’s running mate, but clarified that she has not rejected him.
