Why QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte wants a new wife for dad, Rep. Sonny Belmonte

A story that may make you go “Awww” on this beautiful Friday.

“Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte said she has been prodding her father, Rep. Sonny Belmonte, to remarry, so someone else can head the Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc.,” reports Lira Dalangin-Fernandez on InterAksyon.com.

The post is traditionally held by the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The report explained that it has gone to Joy because her father’s a widower.

Joy’s mother, journalist Betty Go-Belmonte, died in 1994.

Joy—who represented her father at the launch of the Kabuhayan 2013 National Livelihood Trade Fair at the Speaker’s office on Wednesday, October 23—had joked, “I told him, ‘Dad, I’m so busy with the city government, go marry so someone else can be president of the Congressional Spouses.'”

For the record, the House Speaker is already 77 years old. So, you can’t exactly blame him for not itching to plunge back into the dating game. His daughter will just have to grin and bear the burden of doing double duty.
