If there’s any indication that President Rodrigo Duterte is not Senator Leila de Lima’s best friend, this would be it.
In a press conference on Sun, Aug 21, Duterte announced that he wanted to reopen the case against alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles.
“Let us revisit the Napoles case. I have some revealing things to tell you about it. You just wait,” he said.
Well, we’re waiting with bated breath.
“The Napoles case should deserve a second look for it also involves corruption and De Lima,” the president added.
InterAksyon.com reports that Napoles’s camp is now reportedly confident that it will be proven that she was not the mastermind of the multi-billion pesol scam.
Atty. Bruce Rivera, who represents Napoles, said, “Meron pa ngang nanalo sa election ngayon na naging senador pa. Siempre ako, from my end, being a lawyer, medyo masama ang loob ko kasi naging selective justice yung nangyari dun.”
(“There was an ally of the previous administration who even won in the May election as a senator. Of course, from my end, being a lawyer, I was a bit disappointed because there was selective justice then.”)
Rivera went on to say, “We have always been hell-bent on our (statement that), number 1, she was not the mastermind [of the pork barrel scam]. Someone just accused her of it.”
Napoles is currently detained at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City because she was sentenced to reclusion perpetua for the illegal detention case filed by her relative and former aide Benhur Luy, the whistleblower in the pork barrel scam cases.
