Quezon City’s Bistekville 2, a settlement intended for relocated informal settlers, was inaugurated with no less than Vice President Jejomar Binay as the guest of honor. Apparently, there are six Bistekville locations to date: Bistekville 1 in Barangay Payatas, Bistekville 2 in Barangay Kaligayahan, Bistekville 3 in Barangay Escopa, Bistekville 4 in Barangay Culiat, Bistekville 5 also in Barangay Payatas, and Bistekville 6 in Barangay North Fairview.
Aside from former informal settlers, Bistekville is also intended for city hall employees. “Bistekville is the new image of government housing, a community shaped by residents who share the same belief to be at peace and helpful to each other,” said Binay in a Manila Standard Today article. He might as well have said, “And they’ll live happily ever after.”
But this question begs to be asked: Where was the anti-epal posse when this housing project was named? It’s a well-known fact Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is nicknamed “Bistek.” So, it’s clear where Bistekville got its name. The moniker will most probably stick as the housing project is practically a done deal.
