You’ve never seen a protest like this before.

Protesters from the group Karapatan held a one-of-a-kind rally in Mendiola, Manila on Saturday near the Malacañang Palace. Instead of signs and placards holding messages of dissent, the protesters wielded spatulas and pans.

Karapatan held a “cooking show rally” to show their condemnation of the alleged dictatorship that the Palace is cooking up.

“We’re here today at ‘What’s Cooking in Malacañang?’ Brought to you by Duterte’s Kitchen — you’ll die with hunger,” one lady with the microphone announced in Filipino.

The name of the dishes they prepared were meant to slight President Rodrigo Duterte.

“First, we have ‘Papaitang Buhay’ (bitter life). It’s too bitter! The next dish is ‘Digong’s Dinuguan’. Blood really flowed under the Duterte regime,” they said, calling Duterte by his nickname ‘Digong’.

“The third dish — the most special. Presenting: ‘Pasta Pasista’ (fascist pasta)!” they exclaimed.

The protesters joined together to eat the dishes they cooked.

The group is protesting against the violence in relation to Duterte’s controversial war on drugs, the President’s openness to raising a revolutionary government, and for declaring communists as terrorists.

They also spoke against the alleged plans to widen martial law in Mindanao especially when the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the police force expressed their support for the said plan on Friday.
