Thousands of Filipinos went to a Manila hotel this morning to get jabbed with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine because many of them preferred it over the government-procured, China-made CoronaVac.

The vaccines were donated from the COVAX facility, and they were initially given to just medical workers in the city. Today marks the first time that Manila is using them on the elderly and those with comorbidities. At least 3,000 people were at the vaccination venue, but only 900 doses of the vaccine are available, ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo said.

Many of those present showed up at the hotel in the wee hours of the morning and had to wait until 6am for the screening process to start. It goes without saying that they were disappointed that they weren’t able to get the jab.

Most Pinoys are wary of CoronaVac because of its relatively lower efficacy rate. Pinoys believe that Western-made vaccines such as Pfizer, Moderna, and even AstraZeneca are superior than their China-made counterparts.
