Now here’s something we should be excited about.
A young athlete is going to represent the Philippines in the table tennis event of Rio 2016. It’s the first time that our country will be competing in the sport since it was introduced in the 1988 Olympics in South Korea.
Ian “Yan-Yan” Lariba secured the last spot for the Rio Olympics after beating Indonesia’s Lilis Indriani in the 2016 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)-Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament in Hong Kong last week.
The 22-year-old Lariba was the UAAP co-Athlete of the Year in Season 77. The Green Paddler finished her UAAP career with a flawless record in Season 78, DLSU sports reports.
She will be joining boxers Charly Suarez and Rogen Ladon, weightlifter Hidlyn Diaz, taekwondo jin Kirstie Elaine Alora, and track and field athlete Eric Cray as the Philippine representatives to the Rio olympics in August.
