Weekend warrior: 10 things to do in Metro Manila this weekend of May 9-11

SMELL THE FIRST OF SUMMER

Popular Cebuano Urbandub is launching, of all things, a scent. It’s named after the band’s super hit “First of Summer,” and it comes as a cologne and body spray. You don’t know how funny this feels writing this. Peso Movement, Autotelic, and Paranoid City are in the lineup, as of course Urbandub. 9pm. Saguijo Café +Bar, 7612 Guijo St., San Antonio Village, Makati. PHP300

MAKE YOUR OWN HAVIANAS
May 9-11.
It’s that time of year when you can customize your own flip-flops to your heart’s content. This year, Havaianas looks to its mother country for inspiration so you can expect everything—the straps, soles, pins, and the commemorative pair of course—to be a wee bit more colorful. Okay, a whole lot more colorful. 10am-10pm. Glorietta Activity Center, Makati. Free entrance

Palanca St., Legazpi Village, Makati. Free

MEET THE WALKING DEAD CREATOR
May 10-11.
If you feel like exchanging zombie know-how, slapping silly The Walking Dead creator Charlie Adlard for all the stress he’s brought in, or just to shake his hand, you’re in luck. Dude’s in town for a series of book signing this weekend. 2pm, May 10. Fully Booked High Street, Ground Floor, B6, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig. 2pm, May 11. Fully Booked Alabang, The Street, Alabang Town Center, Commerce Ave., Muntinlupa City

SHOP!
May 10-11.
It’s the much-awaited Au Courant trunk show, and for this edition, it’s all about summer travel. Apart from a lot of fab finds (our list includes: Polite Society clutch bags, Joey Samson clothes, Janina Dizon furniture, 13 Lucky Monkey rings, and Natalya Lagdameo bracelets), Rambla will be serving drinks and Gerard Henson, music. 10am-9pm. Kirov model unit, Rockwell, Makati.

IMAGINE THE FUTURE
Until May 31.
The Mind Museum presents The Apocalyptic Project: Imagined Futures. It is comprised of 5 exhibits that explore the end of the world as we know it like endangered sounds, vanishing smells, and the intolerable heat. It should get you moving your ass to do something about climate change. 9am-6pm, Tuesday-Sunday. The Mind Museum, JV Campos Park, 3rd Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. PHP450

SEE CALIPH8’S ART
Until June 27.
Arvin Nogueras, who’s work is currently on exhibit at 1335 Mabini, is actually the Filipino Hip-hop artist Caliph8 and in his exhibit, “A Rotten Pile of Temporary Realizations,” his hip-hop roots abound. He brings the streets to the fore, lets it ferment and gives us the taste of the repulsive, right under our noses. Interesting, yes? 2-7pm. 1335 Mabini St., Ermita, Manila. Tel. No. +63 2 2548498.
