Would you believe Make Your Own Havaianas has been going on for nine colorful years?! Neither could we, but that probably explains the huge fiesta that Havaianas Philippines put together Tuesday night at the Glorietta Activity Center to launch this year’s event. Baterias, Futkaleros, and samba music went up to 11 as beautiful Brazilian models went around socializing with celebrities, bloggers, and press.
This year’s Make Your Own Havaianas isn’t just the usual exercise in creativity. It is also an awesome way to familiarize yourself with Brazilian culture. The popular flip-flop brand’s home country, after all, is the inspiration for this year’s event. As such, 2014’s commemorative pair features Bonfims—Brazilian wish ribbons worn for good luck.

The colorways of straps and soles and pin designs are extra festive this year, too, making sure your customized pair will echo the lively Brazilian spirit. Don’t get scared now—self-expression is a big deal in Brazilian culture.
Make Your Own Havaianas takes place at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati from 10am to 9pm on Thurs and Fri (May 8-9) and from 10am-10pm on Sat and Sun (May 10-11). Entrance is free
