Weekend fires kill 2 yr. old, leave hundreds homeless

Two separate fires killed a 2-year-old and rendered hundreds of families homeless over the weekend.

On Sunday, a two year-old girl died in a fire in Makati City. The victim was identified as Nilziy Joy Buyco, who was found under the debris of her house.

Initial investigations report that the fire started at around 2:10 a.m. at the Buyco residence at the corner of Arellano and Zobel-Roxas Streets. The fire was declared under control at 2:45 a.m. Twenty houses burned down during the pre-dawn fire.

GMA News reported that at least 100 houses burned down in Parañaque City on Friday. There were no reported injuries in the fire which authorities estimated to have destroyed PHP2 million in property.

The fire started at Airport Village at 1:30pm and was declared under control two hours later. Arson investigators are verifying reports that the fire started with an overheated fan at the residence of a certain Grace. Friday’s temperature was the hottest recorded this year at 36.6 in Metro Manila.
