We can’t afford real time CCTV for Metro Manila, says DILG Sec. Mar Roxas

He’s saying we have no choice but to suffer for now.

“Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas admitted that the government has insufficient funds to finance the operation of a real-time closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras even in Metro Manila,” reports Aaron B. Recuenco in Manila Bulletin.

Roxas made the statement to address calls to improve the law enforcement operation in the country.

In a press briefing at Camp Crame, Roxas explained, “The cameras and other equipment for real-time monitoring are very expensive. We don’t have that much money for that.”

The report noted: “So in the meantime, Roxas said they have to be contented with the CCTV recordings from both local government units and business establishments to boost the investigative capability of the Philippine National Police (PNP).”

Roxas pointed out that the present CCTV system is still helpful in investigations.
