WATCH: learn about Pinoy martial arts in this 1950’s video

Jason Bourne made escrima interesting to the world, but Filipino martial arts go way, way back. 

This video shared by Doce Pares, a martial arts gym in New York City gives us a rare look into Pinoy martial arts practiced in the 1950’s.

The video is in black and white, and recorded in French. Don’t worry, there are subtitles!

It shows 2 farmers engaged in an arnis fight. The basics of arnis moves were also explained. As said in the video, there are three basic moves: the taga, the sangga and the agaw.
