In the Philippines, parlor games are serious business. So serious that they’re still popular activities in office parties with full-grown adults.

Filipinos are trained from childhood to do well in them, which is why this viral video of children playing a new kind of game resonated so much with netizens. The video features a game that has participants flick a calamansi (Philippine lime) off a bottle after being spun dizzy.

Facebook user L.a. Madridejos shared the video on Tuesday, which shows kids playing the game in the village of Ermita in Laguna.

He said in his caption in Filipino: “There are things that you think is easy [but is actually hard].”

Participants are first spun around several times before they run to the bottle. They have to cover one eye before trying to flick the lime off the bottle, which they only have one chance to do.

Sound easy? Not quite. Watch the children struggle and flick the air instead.

Try not to laugh too hard.

Madridejos told Coconuts Manila that the video was taken on New Year’s Day. Their organization, the San Antonio Abad Society, has a tradition of hosting parlor games for the children in their village during the New Year.

“The prize is only PHP20 (US$0.38) but there’s a lot of games,” he said in Filipino.

He shared that he was shocked when his video went viral because they’ve been playing the lime game for a long time now.

He stated: “We’ve been playing the calamansi (Philippine lime) game for three years already. It’s the warm-up game for children who want to join [the parlor games].”

“It’s a pleasant surprise for the New Year… It’s also cool because people think the game is easy until they try it,” he told Coconuts.

The video had over 5 million views, 62,000 likes and 115,000 shares as of this article’s posting.

None of the kids featured on the video were able to flick the lime off the bottle. They looked like they enjoyed themselves, though, and netizens had a good laugh.
