May this be a lesson to all Grab users — don’t be late for your booking.

A foreigner in Manila who was on his way to the Bureau of Immigration was caught on video sitting on the hood of a Grab car after the driver canceled his ride for being late. The incident was shared by netizen @AmberPGonzales on Twitter on Friday.

Gonzales was inside the vehicle as a GrabShare passenger, a feature in the ride-hailing app that allows multiple passengers to ride the same car. In her tweet, Gonzales said that they were at EDSA cor. Domingo M. Guevarra St. in Mandaluyong City when the incident happened.

She recalled how they waited for the unnamed foreigner for 5 minutes at his pick-up point. Thinking the guy was a no-show, the driver then canceled his ride through the app. It turns out that he was just late and tried to ride the Grab car, which was already about 500 meters away.

The guy, wearing a white shirt and sunglasses, is visibly pissed in the first video. In it, he can be seen sitting on the car’s hood while the vehicle is not moving. He moves one of his hands as if to tell the driver to keep driving before standing back up.

“He was desperate to get in,” Gonzales said in a tweet.

In another video, the foreigner can be seen sitting on the car’s hood again but this time the vehicle is moving. He slides off the hood, tries to open the car door but fails, then hits it with his hand. He then walks away in the opposite direction.

“The driver explained that there’s a new @grabph policy re cancellations and no-shows. He didn’t listen. We were already causing traffic, so [the] driver tried to move, but this self-entitled man sat on the hood again! He eventually gave up, but managed to hit the car!!!” Gonzales said in her tweet.

She said that no one was hurt in the incident and that the car was not damaged. She also said that the driver, who she identified as Kuya Amor, was surprisingly calm, especially considering what happened.

Last week, Grab announced that it will start charging PHP50 (US$.96) for users who cancel rides and those who don’t show up at the agreed pick-up point.

A passenger is considered a no-show if they are not at the pick-up point within 5 minutes of a GrabCar driver’s arrival. Those riding GrabShare, like the man in the video, are only given a 3-minute grace period.
