Perhaps inspired by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe’s comment to Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte that he is famous in Japan, an anime lover has crafted this almost two-minute video, entitled “El Presidente,” that portrays Duterte Harry as a Japanese cartoon star.
And you know what, he looks convincing as the good guy.
Made by the Davao Nikkei Jin Anime Club, together with the Bisayaball Community, Duterte is drawn using the signature Japanese anime style, with exaggerated features and enlarged eyes.
The 88-second artwork uses the song “Silhouette” by Kana-Boon, which was once used as the opening song of cult favorite “Naruto”. It was published on YouTube on Sun, Sep 18.
The song is about trying to reach a goal, with lines like, “Crossing the line, realizing there was no turning back.”
What’s in the video? The President’s journey, highlighting his simple lifestyle and tough-guy image.
In the opening scene, he is wearing a leather jacket and riding a big bike, with an eagle guiding his path.
The video also shows an animated version of the President’s green house at Doña Luisa Subdivision, and him entertaining media people while sitting on a monobloc chair.
His supporters during the campaign season are shown wearing red shirts and their signature Duterte baller IDs.
Other icons who make an appearance are Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa, Japanese PM Abe, and even the president’s enemies, depicted as villains.
