There’s a reason why we don’t like Mondays — we can’t deal with the surprises they bring.
Around 350 people were in for an unexpected (and unwanted) cinematic experience at a mall in Cebu when the ceiling at one of its cinema rooms collapsed at 8:50pm on Jun 15, during the launch and team-building night of a BPO company called Dreamscape Networks.
Incidents like this tend to bring people together, unfortunately at least six people were hurt. “Lawyer Jeanette Japzon, Cebu Holdings Inc. corporate communications manager, said the victims sustained cuts and various injuries,” reports SunStar.
“Part of the ceiling that fell at Cinema 5 was the ‘acoustic’ ceiling. We are yet to investigate the cause of the incident. As of the moment, our priority is to ensure the safety of those who were present,” Japzon is quoted on SunStar.
In the first part of the video, you see a curtain of water falling through the ceiling and people making their way out of the room.
Towards the middle, bits of plywood come crashing down and land on (thankfully) empty chairs.
But the most unnverving part of the video was that the music — the theme from Star Wars, no less — continued to play while all the ruckus was happening.
According to the report, the liquid was accumulated from the mall’s air conditoning ducking system.
Dreamscape Network CEO Mark Evans is reported to file a lawsuit for. In a statement, he said it took Ayala mangement 25 minutes to respond to the emergency.
