What else is poisonous?
“The EcoWaste Coalition has warned that 38 out of 50 key chain samples found in gift shops have excessive lead content reaching up to 80,500 parts per million (ppm) when the current regulatory lead content in the local market is only 90 ppm,” reports Chito A. Chavez in Tempo.
In the EcoWaste Coalition’s latest investigation, retailers in Quiapo, Manila, and outlets in the metro openly sold the souvenirs in the market from PHP10 to PHP35 each. Most fo the said key chains are made of coconut, plastic, metal or wood, with painted drawings and often bearing the word “Philippines.” They come in many shapes such as a fish, guitar, shirt, or slipper.
