President Rodrigo Duterte is a scary dude. He’s always pissed off, fond of threatening to kill people he’s unhappy with, and, frankly, is in kind of a good position to make it happen.

All that being the case, it’s not surprising that someone would market a mask based on his likeness for the year’s spookiest holiday.

Introducing the (un)official Duterte Halloween latex mask, just US$32.99 on Amazon U.S — and yes, it’s horrifying, albeit maybe not for the reasons we mentioned.

Is it Spock or Duterte?
Spock or Duterte?

In one of those classic internet quirks, the mask was first listed on the e-commerce site in way back in 2017, but it’s been surging in popularity today as netizens shared the link around Facebook.

The mask measures 11.1 x 10.9 x 3.4 inches, and was created by Caili’s Company, a firm based in Ontario, Canada that sells some 4,000 kinds of masks and hundreds of other Halloween props. Unfortunately, the item cannot be shipped to the Philippines, so if you want to get your paws on it you need to get someone based in the U.S. to buy it for you.

All things told, the mask is a decent effort, aptly capturing some of the president’s features (the nose, for instance, is almost on point). From some angles, however, it kinda looks like Spock from “Star Trek.” (Rodrigo Nimoy?)

This is not the first time that someone has sold a Duterte mask. Back in 2016, Coconuts Manila saw some downright uncanny-looking Duterte masks for sale by local website OLX.
