“Kaya kayong mga Amerikano (you Americans), si Chelsea, be careful because you live in a glass house,” Duterte said in a speech in Davao City.
“When President Clinton was fucking Lewinsky, what was your statement or reaction?” he asked Chelsea, who only joined Twitter in 2012.
While the schoolyard clapback may have failed, his consistency in responding to every foreign critic, from United Nations Rapporteurs to human rights advocates, through press conferences or public speeches did not.
Clinton’s three-word tweet was in response to Duterte saying in jest he would take responsibility even for government troops who have committed rape under martial law.
Addressing the criticisms for the first time, Duterte went on the defense over his rape comments and said he was “a man of sarcasm” and only being “sarcastic” when he said that.
He said he only meant to express his full support for his men who are now battling local terrorists in Marawi City.
