With over a 100 cases of drug-related killings reported in less than a month, Vice President Leni Robredo has expressed her concern over the “growing culture of vigilantism and violence.”
On Tue, Jul 13, she called for an investigation into the killings of suspected drug pushers and users alongside the new administration’s fight against drugs and crime, Inquirer reports.
“While we are one with the fight against drugs, we are concerned with the growing culture of vigilantism and violence. We hope that the war is not done at the expense of the innocent and defenseless,” Robredo said in a statement published on her website.
“If there is really culpability, then justice requires that appropriate cases be filed and that those proven to be accountable be punished,” she added.
Robredo continued to express support for the Duterte administration.
At the end of her statement she said that she expects Duterte to do what is appropriate since he is a lawyer and a former prosecutor.
Having worked as a lawyer for the marginalized sector and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) for the indigents in Naga City, Robredo herself is no stranger to human rights law.
