Vice President Jejomar Binay confirmed that actress Alma Moreno and Princess Jacel Kiram of the Sultanate of Sulu are included in his 2016 senatorial slate.

Binay said he decided to include Kiram, daughter of the late Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, because it would be his policy not to drop the Philippines’ claim on Sabah.

“Kasama na para manatili ‘yong claims sa Sabah. Hindi natin dapat i-give up ‘yon,” Binay told reporters in Cavite.

The Sultanate of Sulu made headlines in 2013 after the supporters of Sultan Kiram figured in a standoff with Malaysian authorities in Sabah as they press an old claim to the resource rich region.

Binay also confirmed that Moreno has been included in his Senate line-up.

He said Moreno has experience as a public official.

“Chairman ‘yan ng samahan ng mga konsehal, ‘yong Philippine Councilors’ League. Tsaka matagal na ang serbisyo no’n at matagal naging konsehal ng Lungsod ng Parañaque,” he said.

Binay refused to reveal how many have been included in his Senate line-up. He also remains without a running-mate, but he has said that his “search committee” is already working on this.
