The mudslinging has begun early.
“On Wednesday, July 23—during his speech before the Financial Executives of the Philippines (FINEX) and the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP)—Vice President Jejomar Binay slammed the plunder complaint filed against him, his son Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, and several other Makati officials,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
Binay said the complaint “is obviously connected to the 2016 presidential elections” and that it is “devoid of facts,” as well as “fueled by dirty politics.”
Binay was quoted as saying: “Believe me, this is only the beginning. We expect more to come. And like the one filed yesterday, these complaints will be devoid of facts, devoid of legal basis, and fueled by the dirty politics that was supposed to have been swept away with the previous administration.”
According to the report, complainants Atty. Renato Bondal and Nicholas Enciso VI had accused the Binays and other Makati City officials for the alleged the overpricing of a new parking building built along F. Zobel Street in 2007.
Back then, the Vice President had been the mayor of Makati.
The two complainants claimed that “the parking building was announced as worth PHP1.56 billion—but based on National Statistics Office data on the average cost of the construction of commercial buildings, the cost should have been at PHP245.6 million.”
