We all know that big bad Metro Manila is the bomb when it comes to urban density, so why is it so hard to believe that this picture is for real?
Taken by Coconuts friend Daphne Oseña Paez and shared on her Facebook Page yesterday, it is an aerial shot of Pasig City snapped while she was on a Philippine Airlines flight.
Some people have suggested that the image was digitally altered, but as the influential blogger explains in the caption, “I took this photo on June 12, 2015. It was not edited or filtered. I just cropped it. This is Pasig City.”
One of the cities that comprise Metro Manila, Pasig has a population of 669,773 as of 2010. It is home to Ortigas Center where the Philippine Stock Exchange is located.
“Look around your city. Walk it, if you dare brave the non-existent sidewalks. Cross the non-existent pedestrian lanes,” writes Paez, who was an urban plannner before becoming a TV host and an influential blogger. “Everyone is quick to blame the leaders. But all this happened because of us. Who voted for them? Who allowed this to happen? And it didn’t happen overnight.”
