On Sun morning, Feb 8, Top Gear Philippines posted a video on their Facebook page featuring TV personalities RR Enriquez and Jeck Maierhofer in a car and pulling a prank on a man who happened to be sleeping in the UV Express that they were trailing.
It is not clear where Top Gear Philippines got the video from. They only indicated that the two women made the video.
Top Gear Philippines editor-in-chier Vernon Sarne later explained that Enriquez is the girlfriend of Philippine Basketball Associaition (PBA) player Jayjay Helterbrand and that Maierhofer is the wife of another PBA player, Rico Maierhofer. The two women also competed as a team in the local version of The Amazing Race.
In any case, the video shows the two ladies laughing and honking at the UV Express vehicle in front of them so they could wake up a sleeping male passenger.
In the video, Enriquez, who is in the driver’s seat announces in a mix of English and Filipino, “Ladies and gentlemen, what we will do is honk the horn so the man wakes up.”
The two women then laugh as the man wakes up after Enriquez honked the car horn twice.
In a report posted on the Top Gear Philipppines website, Sarne said, “As you can imagine, people got angry after watching the video — except for a handful of individuals who couldn’t seem to grasp what was so wrong about the rude stunt.”
An ABS-CBNnews.com report published on Sun evening revealed: “Both Enriquez and Maierhofer, who competed on the local version of , posted their apologies on Instagram.”
Maierhofer wrote: “This incident has taught me to be more sensitive towards people’s feelings and be more responsible for my actions.”
For her part, Enriquez had a lengthy apology, which included these words: “It’s a lesson learned for me but hello who are you to judge me? And question my faith as a Christian?” Obviously, she was also addressing the people who bashed her for what she did by questioning her faith. (Her Instagram page is on private mode.)
