Viral: Pinoy restaurant in New York on Vice.com

Believe what you’ve been hearing about Pinoy cuisine, it really is the next big thing.

Balut? So last season. Adobo? Been there, ate that. Foreign foodies are interested in learning about Pinoy dishes beyond these two delicacies.

Our proof? Vice.com, the coolest website on earth (we are only second to them), has dedicated a 13-minute episode talking to the owners of Jeepney: Filipino Gastropub, a tiny and expensive restaurant in New York’s East Village where, as New York magazine describes it, “tabletops are colorfully numbered and embellished, scantily clad pinup girls decorate the walls, and Asian beers are meant to accompany shareable plates of ‘barrio fiesta’ fare.”

“When we started Jeepney we wanted really to push forward the street food of the Philippines,” explains the c/hunky Miguel Trininad, executive chef and co-owner of the gastropub who, as we learned from this episode, was born in a New York cab and raised in the East Village. He says Filipino cuisine has not yet “crossed that bridge where other ethnicities have come and tried it.”
