When the video of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” was released shortly after her twerking made the headlines — and the Oxford Dictionaries Online — a gazillion of parodies were posted and uploaded on the Internet. It was only a matter of time before a Pinoy parody was made, and finally, it’s here.
This video by Internet sensation Mikey Bustos hits it right on the Pinoy head, and right on time for Christmas, too.
“Balikbayan Box” has the Fil-North Am Bustos singing “I got my balikbayan box” in place of the eight-syllable beginning “I came in like a wrecking ball.” Off the bat, he goes on to enumerate all the things inside: “I got coffeemate, lotion, chocolate, shampoo even if I’m kalbo.” It’s so true and that’s what makes it’s funny. You almost forget about the icing on the cake, the cherry on top: Mikey hoisting himself on the balikbayan box and swinging ala Miley.
Bustos — garbed in a Pinoy’s favorite combo of white sando, basketball shorts and pambahay — gamely swings on top of a hanging balikbayan box from a inimitably Filipino backyard. Ah, we should stop talking about it and let you see it for yourself:
