There’s a hero in each of us, as proven by this story of an FX driver who drove a doctor all the way to his destination just so the latter can make it in time for work.
Passenger Claude Fong (@ClaudeCity) shared the experience on Twitter on Sunday and said that he was running late for work at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City at around 7:30am when he rode the FX.
An FX, also known as a UV Express, is a common mode of public transportation in Manila that has pre-determined stops where passengers can board and get off.
Fong told Coconuts Manila through a Twitter message that he boarded one from the University of Santo Tomas along España Boulevard in Manila. It would usually take him a 40-minute trip to get to the hospital where he works.
Fortunately, the FX driver took pity on him when he said that he was running late. He wrote: “This FX driver, Mang (Sir) Reggie, decided to go out of his regular route and drive me straight to the hospital so I won’t be late.”
Fong shared that the driver’s route usually ends at SM North EDSA in Quezon City, which means Fong would have to commute via a jeep to the hospital.
“It was raining [at the time] too,” he said. “But he decided to go beyond it (the stop) and drive me to the hospital,” he shared with Coconuts Manila.
“I love meeting good samaritans (or should I say Filipinos) every day!” he wrote in the tweet. “Sometimes, Pinoys (Filipinos) are really different in accommodating people.”

The tweet has garnered over 8,800 likes and 320 retweets as of posting.
“Small deeds can make people smile,” Fong told Coconuts Manila through a Twitter message.
Netizens were thrilled with the gesture, praising the driver for the deed:

@iamloner2016 suggested that Fong could’ve returned the favor. “Shame Sir, you could’ve given your number or at least your name to him so in case he had a medical emergency, you could help him too.”
Sana Sir binigay mo number mo or at least your name sa kanya para in case may medical emergency sya, makatulong ka din =)
