Update: (8:55am, May 13): Finally, a context to the emo Jollibee! “I was supposed to share the story with the world but some Facebook pages took it as their own and didn’t even credit,” King Anthony Perez, who works as a TV5 reporter in Cebu tells Coconuts Manila.
He replied to our Facebook naggery Thursday morning, telling us the context of the viral photo: “I was on on my way to the gym when the PUJ I was on, stopped. I saw the Jollibee mascot having fun with people passing by the establishment (Jollibee), and then unexpectedly, the mascot sat down. [I felt that] the rarity and the contrast [I saw] needed to be captured.” He took the photo using his iPhone.
He also mentions that May 10 was the hottest recorded day of the year in Cebu. “You ask yourself, how difficult it must be to be a mascot on that day. Double warming — wear a mascot’s outfit on the hottest day of the year.” The cuteness of it all surely had all of us overlooking his point: the humanity behind the so-called happiness.

Of course, it did. Jollibee, he’s such a friend. We’re so used to seeing the bee a certain way — jolly at parties — that seeing him in a different way, well, of course, we’ll get concerned.
Remember when photos of a defective Jollibee stand circulated in social media? Everybody knew it was just a defective stand, but a concerned hashtag went viral: #PrayforJollibee.
