A popular bar in Quezon City came across quite the bombshell — literally — after one of its staff found a vintage bomb lurking within its premises.

According to reports, a crew member spotted an 81-millimeter vintage mortar while cleaning the bar on Thursday afternoon.

The on-duty security guard promptly reported the discovery of the mortar shell, leading to an ocular inspection conducted by the authorities.

The incident was also reported to the District Explosive Ordinance Canine Unit (DECU) of the Quezon City Police Department (QCPD) for immediate investigation.

According to the management of The Pop Up, it was found out that the mortar shell dated back to World War II and was used as an explosive device.

“Just to be sure, the authorities were invited to check it out, and they confirmed it to be inert,” said Pop Up in the early morning.

“Turns out it belonged to a former vendor who left it among some stocks that were being inventoried.”

The vintage mortar is now under the care of DECU-QCPD to ensure that no harm will be inflicted.
